Mexican Wedding

With Acapulco being set around a bay, it is rightly called the 'Queen of Mexican Beach Resorts', with lush mountains that sink into the beautiful warm sapphire waters of the bay surround it. Most hotels and resorts have an on-site wedding coordinator to make sure your wedding runs smoothly and all the legwork is already done for you.

No surprise then that many famous people have chosen Acapulco as the place to get married, or come to on their honeymoon. This list includes people like Bill and Hillary Clinton, John and Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Todd, Donald and Ivana Trump etc.

Some things you should be aware of before getting married in Acapulco:
  • All weddings in Mexico must include a civil part of the ceremony. Religious Mexican weddings have no legal consequences. If you want your wedding to be recognized in the United Kingdom, it will have to include a civil ceremony.
  • A judge at the civil registry in Acapulco performs the civil ceremony. The civil registry, or registro civil, is located near the fort of San Diego. However most wedding venues and hotels can arrange for the civil ceremony to take place on their premises for an additional cost.
  • The first thing you need to do when arranging your wedding in Acapulco is to make an application for marriage at the civil registry (registro civil). This will have to include a date and time for the wedding. In addition to this, your application will have to include a certificate from a doctor in Mexico stating that the bride and groom are free of HIV and other diseases considered in Mexico to be a hindrance to marriage. Tests must be taken in Mexico within two weeks of the wedding date.
